We are a family owned, financially secure company with a storied history dating back to 1926. Lapham-Hickey business is built on the strength from nurturing long-standing relationships with our customers.  Those relationships have afforded us the opportunity to service customers for over 99 years.

1926

Where it all Began…Frank Hickey, Edward and Robert Lapham & George Clifford purchase Fitzsimmons company to create Lapham-Hickey Steel

1929

1929-Moved to a new 25,000 square foot combined plant and office at 3333 W. 47th Place Chicago, IL

1948

Purchased Edgar T. Ward Steel Warehouse at 48th and Christiana St Chicago, IL

1962

Established first branch location in St. Louis, MO

1966

Consolidated both Chicago operations into a state of the art 104,000 square foot plant and office in Bedford Park IL

1967

Increased capacity at our St. Louis, MO location by moving into a larger factory located in Bridgeton MO

1968

First addition to the Bedford Park, IL building of 30,000, square foot

1968

Started branch location in Neenah, WI

1972

To support increased customer demand, we doubled the plant space in both our Bridgeton MO and Neenah, WI locations

1973

60,000 square foot addition to our Bedford Park, IL location

1981

Acquisition of Beck & Corbitt, St. Louis MO

1984

Acquired Brown Steel giving us our current footprint of 135,000 square feet in Columbus, OH

1989

Moved the Neenah, WI Location to a larger rail served campus in Oshkosh, WI

1990

Acquired Clifford Metals in Providence RI. Allowed Lapham-Hickey to competitively service customers in the northeast

2000

Transitioned our Providence, RI facility to a new state of the art flatrolled processing facility in Pawcatuck, CT.

2001

Acquired a plant in Twin Cities, MN. Allowed us to support local fabrication requirements in Minnesota

2002

Purchased 160,000 square foot flatrolled processing plant in Madison, IL with modern slitting and blanking technology.

2005

Purchased 50,000 square foot plant and office in Little Canada, MN increasing our fabrication and long product storage.

2008

Purchased Oakwood Ave. plant in Oshkosh to increase our processing capacity

2013

Purchased the assets of Industrial Spring Steel, Philadelphia, a supplier of high-carbon tempered and annealed spring steel throughout the East Coast.

2015

Acquires Cragin Metals which reinforces our position as one of the leading full line service centers in the Chicagoland and Midwest region.

2018

Largest acquisition in company history, Thompson-Dayton Steel. This allowed Lapham-Hickey to expand their footprint into the Southeast marketplace along with two facilities in Ohio that complemented our existing products and services

2019

Addition and installation of our most state of the art slitting line at our Bedford Park, IL facility

2021

Acquisition of Rebel Steel, giving Lapham-Hickey the ability to competitively service opportunities in the Tennessee area

2022

Entered into a partnership with VC Laminations, a premier electrical steel stamping company located in Queretaro Mexico

2022

Acquisition of SMC Fabricators adding 115,000 square feet to complement our existing footprint in Oshkosh WI

2023

Acquired Arrowhead Steel allowing us to strengthen our service and selection.

2024

Acquired the operating assets of Crystal Steel Corporation.

 

2025

Acquired Alkar Steel and Processing, also known as ASAP.

2025

Lapham-Hickey Steel and Risse + Wilke enter into a partnership to operate their Paulding OH hardening and tempering facility.
