HEAT TREATMENT DATA
This is a fine grained, superior quality, electric
furnace tool steel. Raw material is
purchased to high standards which include acid disk inspection of billets and
close control is maintained throughout its manufacture to assure you of a
superior product. This is furnished
spherodized annealed as standard, ground to a smooth finish 100% free of
decarburization.

TOLERANCES:
This is ground to plus or
minus .001” on thicknesses including 1-1/4”.
Over 1-1/4” plus or minus .002”.
Widths are plus .005” minus .000”.
Lengths are all furnished on the plus side.
RECOMMENDED USES:
This is an excellent oil hardening tool steel
for dies, tools, gauges, punches, etc.
PREPARATION:
Pack holes and other openings not requiring
hardening. Asbestos rope is preferable
as a packing material.
HARDENING:
Heat slowly in neutral
atmosphere furnace to 1475 degrees to 1525 degrees Fahrenheit.
Use slightly higher temperature for thicker
sections. Soak at heat for at least 1/2
hour. Quench in light quenching oil of
approximately 125 degree temperature Fahrenheit.
Oil-Hardening Ground Flat Stock Pre-Colored and Oversize SAE Type 01
HEAT TREATMENT
This is the same with
oversize tolerances and is pre-colored for easy identification and
scribing. See heat Treatment data sheet
for regular type 01.
ANALYSIS:
Analysis is the same as for SAE type 01 shown
above.
TOLERANCES:
Under 3/16” is ground to plus
.001” minus .001” on the thickness and plus .005” minus .000” on the
width. Sizes 3/16” thick and large are
ground plus .011” to .013” on the thickness and plus .010” to .015” on the
width. Lengths are all furnished on the
plus side.
RECOMMENDED USES:
This is an excellent oil
hardening tool steel for blanking, forming, piercing, and coining dies where
medium abrasion resistance is required.
It may also be used for gauges, templates, wear plates, etc.
